Description:

The Payroll Manager will manage the entire payroll process. The payroll Manager responsibilities include processing timesheets updating payroll records and answering employee questions about payments. The Manager will work directly with the HR team to ensure accurate processing from HR to employee payments. The Payroll Manager will also supervisor the payroll team, hire and train new employees. The Manager is expected to work independently with all supervisory personnel on an as needed basis to assure the correct processing of the bi-weekly payroll for Verland Inc. and all of its affiliates. This often requires the development of individual and team work procedures and routines. The range of specialized responsibilities will vary according to the need of the department. This is a salaried, exempt position.


The following is a list, not an all inclusive list, of duties the Payroll Manager is responsible for:

  • Oversees the daily and weekly process of the payroll department.
  • Implements, maintains, and reviews payroll processing systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.
  • Maintains payroll information by designing systems; directing the collection, calculation, and entering of data.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices.
  • Facilitates audits by providing records and documentation to auditors.
  • Verifies all payroll deductions as directed from Human Resources for Verland, TVFI and CLA.
  • Supervises and reviews editor's work for each payroll. Sets reporting deadlines for editors.
  • Reviews payroll and initiates corrections before final submission.
  • Maintains all payroll reports both electronic and paper according to Local, State and Federal codes.
  • Conducts Payroll Orientation sessions for all new hires.
  • Audits and verifies data for payments of 403b (bi-weekly) for all three companies and Wage and LS Taxes (quarterly) for all three companies.
  • Acts as principal source (phone/e-mail) of payroll information for all staff and managers.
  • Performs all maintenance and set-up of employee PTO Accruals.
  • Performs special assignments and analysis as directed.
. Requirements:

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • College Degree in Business Administration, Human Resources or allied field is usually required; however, will accept High School graduate who has taken advanced courses in accounting at the college level with a minimum of three (3) years' payroll manager experience.
  • Must have knowledge of various computer accounting programs currently being used in the Fiscal Department (Sage Intacct, Horizon).
  • Extensive knowledge of the payroll function including preparation, balancing, internal control, and payroll taxes.
  • Must have knowledge of proprietary payroll services, specifically Paylocity, UKG Dimensions.
  • Must have intermediate to advance skill in MS Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Must have good organizational skills and be able to set priorities.
  • Must have all required clearances.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position requires sitting, standing, walking, driving, seeing, hearing, speaking, writing, stooping, twisting, climbing and lifting up to twenty five pounds independently.
